Gran Vía is the most famous and popular touristic street in Spain. It was mostly dedicated to entertainment with many cinemas, theaters, musicals, night clubs and bars. The construction of the Gran Vía Avenue started in 1910. It’s 1300m long and more than 100 years old, lined with some of the most sought-after retail shops in town –drawing over 10 million people every year.
It’s no wonder the NH Hotel Collection decided to build its new 4-star hotel located at number 21 Gran Via. Coinciding with its first centenary, the building opens its doors as one of the Group’s most sophisticated hotels – with a great location, history, cuisine and design. The new hotel, located on what is known as Madrid’s Broadway, is close to the best musicals, theatres and one of the best shopping areas in Madrid.
Known as Gran Via 21, the hotel is now home to one of the most unusual hotels of the NH Collection premium brand: NH Collection Gran Vía. The work of architects Julio Martínez Zapata and José López Sallaberry (who is also the architect of the emblematic Casino de Madrid), its construction as housing for Tomás Allende started in 1915. Finally, this beautiful building in the Neo-Baroque style opened its doors exactly one hundred years ago, in 1918.
This luxury hotel has a total of 94 rooms, (22 Superior rooms, 38 Superior rooms with a view, 6 Premium rooms, 12 junior suites, 10 Premium rooms with a view, and 6 Premium XL rooms with a view). Rooms are equipped with the company’s benchmark amenities, the Brilliant Basics: mattresses designed exclusively for NH Hotel Group, rain-effect showers, Nespresso coffee-makers and a kettle, 46’’ LED TV, Wi-Fi offering 1Mb and easy access, among other exclusive amenities that complement the accommodation to guarantee extraordinary experiences.
Gran Via offers an elegant and welcoming setting with interiors designed by Mercedes Isasa, Estudio TBC. The interior designer has been responsible for giving the whole hotel its personality. To do this, she has brought back the classic elegance of the fifties and the emergence of Gran Vía, through materials and shapes, light and shades. It’s a perfect combination of Spanish tradition and the most avant-garde flair that makes the hotel what it is today.
The eighth and ninth floors are home to one of the hotel’s most striking features: its unique 360-degree rooftop terrace and its restaurant, Picalagartos. This rooftop offers one of the most beautiful views of Gran Via. This is where Picalagartos Sky-Bar, the new Azotea Grupo space is born. A unique space, located on the ninth floor, houses the exclusive Tanqueray Sky Garden, an urban garden in the centre of Madrid to enjoy the best selection of cocktails and the perfect Gin & Tonic. Azotea Grupo also presents the Cardhu Scotch House, on the ninth floor, a specialist bar where the best Single Malts and Blended Scotch Whisky can be enjoyed.
Led by Madrid chef Javier Muñoz-Calero, this new space is a tribute to Spanish cuisine and seasonal produce but also offering some more traditional dishes. Thus, it is possible to enjoy Callos a la Madrileña with Catalan Santa Pau Beans, Bravas Montera, or Fried baby squid tentacles with black garlic alioli. The menu is completed with a fine selection of Spanish and international wines.
Overall, the NH Collection brand represents a new class of hotel, with an eclectic and subtle style. These hotels offer unique buildings, in the best locations of leading cities. All NH Collection hotels have been equipped with the best amenities and comfort standards, as well as provide a personalized range of products and services. Consider the NH Gran Via Madrid for your next event – you will not be disappointed!
