Spain is the 3rd most popular destination for the MICE market. Malaga is one of the more popular destinations with its endless beaches and one that offers unique experiences and nearby historical sites. The Melia Costa del Sol is a key player for MICE travel. The hotel is conveniently located in Torremolinos, Malaga right on the coast and located within steps to the Paseo Maritime promenade. It is also within 10 minutes from the Malaga airport and 15 minutes from the train station.
I can attest to the location having stayed here several years ago. It was great to just walk out and be so close to the Promenade. In addition, the hotel has had a complete renovation since I was there and my incentive business colleagues tell me it is lovely. The hotel is great for groups with nicely appointed rooms, several dining options, a marine spa, infinity pool and meeting space for up to 450. The hotel is also constructing a new terrace and rooftop pool offering spectacular views beginning this November through March 2018. This will also be available for outdoor social events and groups.
The guest rooms are exquisitely appointed. Most of the rooms have private terraces and ocean views. The rooms are equipped with either a queen size bed or two singles and all rooms have an flatscreen TV, free WIFi, mini bar, safe, and a full bath.
For those groups who meet and play, the Melia Costa del Sol Convention Centre is perfect. It boasts 14 state-of-the-art meeting rooms, accommodating up to 450 guests. Whether it is a meeting, seminar, presentation or social event, the state- of- the-art facility can accommodate.
The Melia Costa del Sol offers several dining options; all serving freshly prepared traditional Mediterranean cuisine. The Buffet Restaurant serves breakfast and dinner. Dinner includes fresh salads, vegetables, fish, meats, cold cheeses and meats, fresh fruit and delicious desserts. The Proa Restaurant serves a la carte, traditional Mediterranean cuisine with a creative flair. It is known for its regional food, including freshly caught fried fish, fresh gazpacho and a traditional dish of salmorejo and sardines in citrus fruit. The restaurant offers a view of the Mediterranean Sea under a covered terrace.
For evening cocktails, enjoy the Bar Central. Sip drinks in a relaxed atmosphere with a pool and ocean view while enjoying live music.
Should you want to go out for an evening, several restaurants are nearby and many enjoy an evening stroll along the Paseo Maritime Promenade that is merely steps outside of the hotel. Enjoy it anytime for sunrise, sunset, leisurely strolls, jogging, cycling, people watching, shopping, grabbing a refreshment, or having an exquisite dinner. Many places also stay open until the wee hours.
Staying in Malaga offers great experience options. Must-sees are the Alcazaba with the Gibralfaro Castle, the Plaza de Merced, home to the Picasso Musuem and the Malaga Cathedral. Several villages, such as Mija and Marbella, are nearby and are great for tours. Full day excursions may be arranged to Ronda, Seville, Granada, Gibraltar and even Morocco.
The Melia Costa del Sol is a great choice for the MICE market. It offers a convenient location, is on the beach and Promenade and most importantly offers superb service for all of their guests. You will not be disappointed. For more information on the Melia Costa del Sol and the Malaga area, please contact The Tourist Office of Spain in Chicago.
