Madrid is a city committed to the positive impact of events. Earlier this year, the Governing Board of Madrid City Council approved the city’s SDG localization strategy. The vision follows the below six groupings, with specific goals set for each and with a target date of 2030 to accomplish those goals.
- Efficient and transparent institutions
- Climate neutrality, mobility, and air quality
- Green city, responsible consumption, and circular economy
- Social protection and equality
- City to enjoy
- Innovation and inclusive and sustainable economy
As part of the sustainability efforts, the Madrid Convention Bureau has created and launched a digital platform PLUS (Platform for Legacy with US) for the management of social and environmental sustainability and legacy of Madrid’s meetings and events. PLUS generates sustainability reports specific to an individual event and makes recommendations to minimize social and environmental impact and facilitate implementation of SDG’s (sustainable development goals) in real-time. This is all done during the design phase of an event, allowing organizers to make any necessary changes prior to program operation.
An additional feature of PLUS is related to creating legacy by promoting contact between event organizers and local agents, encouraging positive impact actions from a social, environmental, and cultural point of view.
The Madrid Convention Bureau has also created a MICE Guide for sustainability whose purpose is to reinforce the guidelines that companies apply to management in order to integrate environmental, economic, and social sustainability elements into their internal processes, as well as to generate added value to the provision of their services.
If you are organizing an event in Madrid, please contact the Madrid Convention Bureau for additional information. PLUS is a valuable tool, providing comprehensive information, allowing for more informed decision-making during your planning phase.
