Swiss Bliss: Switzerland Is Open for Meetings & Incentives

A getaway to Switzerland appears on the bucket list of many for good reason. It’s a beautiful destination in Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. The Alps enchant, the chocolate thrills, and the country doesn’t disappoint.  Switzerland’s accessibility to central Europe, its breathtaking natural attractions, famous hospitality and cuisine have long been reasons MICE planners book Switzerland.  As vaccination rates rise worldwide, groups will inevitably desire to return to international travel. There is no better time to begin planning a MICE event in Switzerland.

Starting June 26, 2021, travelers from the United States are once again allowed entry to Switzerland. Fully vaccinated individuals are not required to quarantine or to take a test prior to arrival in the country. Those not vaccinated are allowed entry with proof of recovery from the virus or provision of negative PCR test results. The Switzerland Convention & Incentive Bureau (SCIB) provides a summary of these entry requirements for reference. Keeping health and safety a priority, Switzerland has developed a Covid certification program for those who have tested negative, have recovered or have been vaccinated. There are no restrictions for events with Covid certificate entry requirements. For those events without Covid certificate entry requirements, capacity restrictions remain.  Details of those restrictions and protections in place for accommodations, restaurants and public transportation are updated on the SCIB’s site.

Supported by Switzerland Tourism, the “Clean and Safe” campaign accredits service suppliers as responsible for ensuring safety protocols are implemented. For example, accommodations with the “Clean and Safe” label have enacted hygienic procedures to battle virus transmission in public and private spaces.  Social distancing measures and indoor mask requirements are required as are contact tracing initiatives. Similar protocols have been enacted by participating catering, hospitality and transportation providers.

Understanding that some may still be hesitant to travel overseas, the Swiss tourism industry has moved quickly to adapt to a hybrid meeting market. As such, hybrid meeting technology capabilities are easily facilitated by Swiss hoteliers and their partners. One such facility is Lausanne’s, Millennium Theater. Opening in 2021, this facility can accommodate 500 people and provides a dedicated data center with ultra-high-speed internet capability.

Make no mistake. Switzerland is a must-experience destination. Pent up demand following the pandemic’s decline, will push Switzerland to the top of your MICE destination list.
