On Friday, July 12, ten young international chefs who participating in this year's edition of VI Training Program visited Asturias. The program, organized by ICEX Spanish Cuisine Spain Trade and Investment , in collaboration with International Cooking School of Valladolid, will culminate in the V International Competition to be held in the capital Castilian Leon.
Designed by the international advocacy platform www.whereisasturias.com, the program in Asturias included a day of fishing in Gijon organized by Astur Yacht Club and a visit to the Gijón Cider Festival de Nava, where they were received by Mayor D. Emilio Ballesteros and Tourism Councilman D. José María Osorio. They got to know first-hand the process of traditional cider making Cider Estrada Llagar where they enjoyed a espicha they described as the best food in all tested in Spain so far. Also tasted Author Cider Sparkling Brut Emilio Martinez DOP (EM) of Cider Winery Governor Martinez Brothers Sopeña.
The young international chefs who participated were: Zhou Meng in (China), Arnold Marcelo Lopez Estupiñan (Colombia), Laase starup Petersen (Denmark), Crystal Williams (Atlanta, USA), Geneva Melby (Seattle, USA), Maria Sierra (Honduras), Alischa Horsten (Netherlands), Rajesh Kumar (India), Julie-Anne Finan (Ireland) and Wojtasik Rafal (Poland).
The call was sent to 1,980 schools worldwide cuisine and promoted through economic and trade offices in Spain and abroad. The choice of participants, selected from a total of 87 applications have been made by representatives of ICEX and EIC.
The program began in June with intensive training in Spanish gastronomy six weeks, which is developed at the International School of Cooking, complete with a Spanish language module. Later, students will move to different parts of Spain for thirteen weeks during practice in upscale restaurants. Laase starup Petersen of Denmark will stay at Casa Gerardo while the rest will be in other Michelin star restaurants distributed Spanish geography.
Finally, students will have the opportunity to put into practice everything learned competing for the best concept cover in the V International Tapas Competition, organized by the International School of Cooking in cooperation with the city of Valladolid, which will take place the first week November.
